CHILDREN

Karel & Elvire had four children together:

  1. son: Erick: Born: 1932 in Malang, Dutch East Indies.

  2. daughter: Joan Helen: Born: July 17, 1933 in Malang, Dutch East Indies.

  3. son: Roy Donald: Born: December 20, 1934 in Malang, Dutch East Indies.

  4. son: Ludolph Henri : Born: November 30, 1936 in Malang, Dutch East Indies.

One of the most important things that I can say about my grandfather is that he was absolutely adored by his children. While I wish I would have taken more opportunities to speak with my Oom Han about his dad, I can say that my father and aunt Joan always spoke about their father with pure love.

Karel H. Bos was always described as a deeply loving, caring, affectionate, and gentle father. When my dad or aunt spoke about my grandfather, there was always an extra twinkle of love and missing him in their eyes.

SIBLINGS of KAREL BOS

Karel had three siblings. Two brothers, Anton and Albert, and a sister, Pat (Patricia?) to whom he was very close. At this time I do not know their birth order, or two of their birthdates, or any other information.

However, I do have the following information about Anton:

ANTON LODEWIJK GIJSBERTUS BOS was born on May 11, 1905. (He was first married on November 7, 1929, to Louise (Louisa) Heijstek (Heystek) in Malang. They later divorced. He remarried to Sophie Charlotte Tielman. He died November 6, 1975.

Thanks to my dad's cousin, Sietske Bos (daughter of Anton), I know that Pat's married last name is SNEL.

Parents

PARENTS of KAREL BOS

At this time I sadly do not have any information about my great-grandparents. I am hoping some family will be able to help me fill in the blanks.

POSSIBLY:

FATHER: Dirk Gijsbertus Bos, born 1878, died 1930, OR May 2, 1937 in Malang, East Java.

MOTHER: Maria Elisabeth Boon.

RE: FATHER of KAREL BOS: I do have a photo copy of what is said to be the birth certificate of the father of Karel Bos (below.) However, as noted, I'm not sure of the accuracy of that statement. I am still working on trying to (improve) the translation, which did not help me whatsoever.

RE: MOTHER of KAREL BOS: The only information I have about her is from the postcards that Karel Bos sent to her (See page, "WW2 Prisoner: Internment Camp.") He addressed her as a widow, and her first initial was "S." Unfortunately, at this time, that is all I know.

FAMILY TRIP(?)

Family Trip?

Newspaper clipping below is from a trip Elvire took with all three children. "Mevr. E. Bos.; J.H. Bos (Joan) and "2 kinderen" (2 kids: Roy & Ludolph.) It does not show Karel Bos on the passenger list. The two were likely already divorced by this time.

Divorce

DIVORCE

Karel & Elvira eventually divorced. I am not sure of the year, however, I do know that their children were still young. It was somewhere between 1937 and 1941. I also do not know the circumstances. (At the latest, they divorced in 1941, based on Elvira's second marriage date. )

Karel had a long-time girlfriend, Ed (Edwina? Edith?), who was very good to the children as told to me by Joan Bos. After the divorce, the children all lived with their father and his girlfriend. I wish I knew her full name as she was loved by her "step-children."

Elvire Bonk remarried, to J. W. (Kees) Boordie-Ripassa (of Surinamese decent) on January 9, 1942, in Malang.

After the imprisonment of Karel Bos by the Japanese occupation, the children moved and went to live with their mother and their step-father.
