Karel H. G. Bos

KAREL HENDRIK GIJSBERTUS BOS was born on November 29, 1903. He was born in Djepara (now Jepara) in Central Java, Indonesia.

He later moved to Malang, East Java, where he spent most of his life. It is unclear at this time exactly when or why this move as made.

​

He was born and raised entirely in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia.) And although having mostly Indonesian blood flowing through his veins, he was a distant descendent of the Dutch who had colonized this land generations ago, and therefore he held Dutch citizenship.

 

That said, he was also the descendant of the colonized. (It would be this painful colonization history that would bring more pain to Indonesia/ the Dutch East Indies hundreds of years later in the 1940s. More about that later.)

He was known not only for his architectural contributions, but also as a musician and an active sportsman. He enjoyed football (soccer.) (Note: My father always played and refereed soccer, and was also a musician in his earlier years.)​
